Art collectors of the same generation, Yutori-man and Yuko Takahashi, are hosting a joint exhibition titled "(Don't) Keep It" with fellow curator and peer, Souya Handa.
The focus of this exhibition is on the broad concept of "participatory art," meaning works that are intended to be altered by people other than the artist. Selected pieces from the varied Yutori-man and Yuko Takahashi collection, which involve actions such as taking home, replenishing, or eating, showcase the charm and power of participatory art.
During the exhibition period, there will be various events from the unique perspective of the collectors, including talks by the three organizers, "participatory" performances by artists, and lectures by restorers.
Once a work leaves the hands of its creator, it may change shape or even lose all traces of the artist's involvement. For collectors who possess such works, what they hold may no longer be the physical piece itself.
This exhibition presents the internal conflict of collectors who wish to preserve the works in their pristine form against the demands of artists who expect the works to change and evolve. It highlights the tension between "Keep It" (leave it as is) and "Don't Keep It" (don't leave it as is), and the passion of collectors who continue to gather such works despite this conflict.
